What is Calming Music

May 4th, 2010

The term ‘New Age Music’ has become really overused and is loosely applied to a full array of diverse styles. Fundamentally it is relaxing music intended to generate positive feelings, inspiration and relaxation.

The style initially appeared in the 1970’s in Asia with artists like Kitaro creating what was at that moment spacey sounding futuristic compositions by using banks of synthesizers. Kitaro would repeatedly render performances of the impressionist music of Debussy.

Today, the typical calming sound is perhaps made up of sustained synth pads with sequenced runs repeating in the background, this is regularly accompanied by an underlying drone bass or pedal giving a somewhat spellbinding and calming effect.

This is the class of music usually used for massages, healing sessions or other therapies.

There can be though loads of more diverse styles that come bundled together in the New Age Music genre. There is a large amount of melodic music, some piano based or maybe around some other solo instrument. There is a growing trend of using classical instruments alongside the dreamy sythesized sounds. This is occasionally referred to as neo-classical.

The ‘New Age’ label has become a genre group of its own encompassing a number of of the subsequent sub genres;

Alternative

Ambient

Celtic

Energy Healing

Ethnic Fusion

Healing

Nature

Neo-Classical

New Age

Progressive Electronic

Self-Help

Solo Instrumental

Space

Techno-Tribal

As you can see the term ‘calming music‘ has grown to be somewhat overworked and these days the term encompasses a great deal more than merely the typical ‘wallpaper’ music that it has become famous for.

Musician and composer Andy Bramhill writes about soothing music on his blog where you are able to get the latest details on his own CDs now available for download.

All You Need to Know About Computer Speakers

March 4th, 2010

Although functioning on the same basic electronic principles with other types of audio systems, computer speakers have low-power internal amplifiers and standard audio connections that make the use possible in combination with the PC sound card. Laptops or notebooks have internal computer speakers with an automatic connection, while coaxial cables are required for the connection to regular desktops. There are also USB computer speakers designed to match the new technological criteria specific to PC design.

The quality and price of computer speakers will always remain variable. Most sound systems packaged together with the computer consist of poor-quality plastic boxes, although some stand out a bit by bass and treble control or equalization features. Even so, there is nothing outstanding in the performance of these audio systems. Really sophisticated computer speakers include a subwoofer unit that increases the bass output. Such a central unit contains the power amplifiers required for the small additional speakers and the bass speaker at the same time.

Moreover, computer speakers can be used in combination with an MP3 player unit as an alternative to headphones. In fact, some computer speakers have headphone jacks of their own as they are also designed for business applications besides music listening. At present, people usually judge the quality of computer speakers by their price, meaning that the more expensive the units, the more numerous the incorporated features. Plus, even if designed for computers, computer speakers can also be combined with other appliances as we have previously shown, as for example, listening to soothing music.

In some cases, the price may be tricky and you can pay quite a lot of money for a very poor technical offer. It all starts with the purpose of the computer speakers. Normally, the sound quality should be high for the entire room, not only for the desk area. You can in fact use a web camera, microphones and a good pair of computer speakers to improve the communication and the sound quality considerably.

Improvements are expected form large software companies like Microsoft that have already announced some high-tech audio system release in the near future. Before the average consumer gets access to such technology, there will be a test phase, an exclusivity phase, and finally, serial production will be encouraged by dropping prices.
