Have You Ever Thought About Amazing Rug Pads

August 24th, 2010

Overtime, even the most durable rugs show signs of aging. Obviously this is like rug pads. Of course, if the rug pad is left out, or a low quality option is used, you are going to notice this as well; just not in the same way. But, ask yourself this, if you purchased a new car, would you skip the oil changes? Of course not, as everyone knows, changing your oil prolongs the life of your engine and helps you get the most out of your car.

After all, most people purchase area rugs so they don’t have to walk on the hard floor. If you have a closed cell pad, the dirt is held and cushioned - it’s not constantly ground against the hard floor. But has little, or nothing, to do with carpet pads usually. In fact, the only way that you could do this would be by lifting the entire rug; a process that you probably do not want to get involved with.

Rug pads protect the carpet underneath. What about safety? Have you ever walked on a rug - especially on a runner - and have it slip underneath you? Have you ever tripped on a curled up edge of a rug walking into a room? In these days of ready law-suits, the last thing you want is a hazard waiting to happen - most importantly to keep you and your family safe, but also to prevent unfortunate accidents for guests. This is similar to felt rug pads frequently. With the proper pad you can be rest assured that the rug is going to lay as it should.

Rug pads aid in the prevention of bacteria, odor, mildew and mold build up. While safety and protecting your rug are the most important reasons to invest in a good quality rug pad, there are a number of other reasons. Finally, a quality pad will also make your rug more comfortable to walk on.

Rug pads reduce slippage. And one final tip, when laying your rug pad down, make sure you read the instructions to ensure you are putting the right side down - some pads have different textures on the bottom to help it grip better to the floor. No matter who is installing your new rugs, make sure that you do your research into the pad that is being used. The benefits of rug pads far exceed the inexpensive price of acquiring them as they are very affordable.

Bed Bugs Rochdale, Oldham and Bury.

July 12th, 2010

One of the most hated and misunderstood pests known to man is the bed bug (Cimex lectularius). How many of us fell asleep to sleep at night as youngsters with the parting rhyme of our parents in our ears “sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite”?

Bed Bugs most probably started to feed on people at about the period we moved into caves, the bat bugs Cimex pilosellus and C pipistrella primarily feed on bats and it is probable that bat feeding species of bugs evolved to feed on man when our ancestors started staying} in bat infested caves.

Before the invention of DDT in the early 20th century bed bugs were common unwelcome guests in most low quality homes.

The later years of the 20th century saw pest operatives dealing with very few bed bug call outs indeed, their presence being mostly restricted to low quality holiday camps and student accomadation etc.

A lot of people confuse dust mites, which cannot be seen by the naked, with bed bugs which deinitely.

Adult bedbugs are reddish brown, about a quarter of an inch in size and very swollen after feeding on human blood.

Bed bugs usually feed on our blood every week or so, appearing in the hours before dawn and locating their target by smelling the exhaled CO2 from human breath and when close in on their target, they sense infra red heat.

Lacking a suitable human meal to dine on they can lie in a period of dormancy for periods of up to 18 months.

Bed Bugs

Often the first sign of a bed bug infestation are spots of blood on sheets and on the edges of mattresses and many people can react badly to bed bug bites.

The early part of the 21st century has seen bed bug infestations explode across the planet, the easy availability of world travel and economic migration have both been given as reasons for the resurgence.

What is positive is that that are now making a real resurgence not only in cheaper quality housing but top class hotels, schools and even hospitals.

One London borough cited a doubling of bed bug problems every year from 1995 to 2001.

One night away in an infested premises is all it needs, they hitch a ride in your suitcases or bags. Stretford Pest control companies are also now reporting cases of transport related bed bug infestations on transport of all kinds so a simple trip home on an infested tube or train can be all it takes to bring bed bugs to your own home.

They are an difficult pest to deal with as contrary to popular opinion they do not just live in beds. They infest any nook and cranny conveniently close to a sleeping human being, beds, electrical sockets, televisions, bed side telephones etc and dealing with them is both laborious and time consuming. They have even been discovered found living under the toe-nails of infirm people and in the folds of flesh on flabby people.

They are not a pest that can be tackled by an amateur and a pest control professional will almost certainly be needed.

Modular Homes sometimes have a bad rap

April 13th, 2010

In my town there is a plant that makes modular homes. I’ve been trying to get in for an open house for years, but always seem to miss the notice about it in our local paper. My husband even worked there for a few years and I’ve never seen their particular models of homes. Of course I have seen others at various farm shows, fairs, and trade shows, but never the one in my hometown. Crazy.

I am shocked by the ones I have seen. They’re actually quite beautiful. There’s sometimes a stigma against them, as if they’d be built poorly or have low quality items inside. Actually, they have pretty ingenious modular home floor plans and some really cool features, better things than I have in my own home.

Their kitchens are truly remarkable, the master bath suite area is phenomenal, and with so many different layouts to pick it’s really hard to get the wrong one.

It’s kind of cool to have your house built inside. Just think of those little nooks and crannies that are never exposed to the elements. The modular home builders are skilled at what they do and the materials used are top quality.

When you order one you need to have a lot purchased for where you intend to place it. You’ll need to pour the foundation (or put in a basement) and then they’ll come out and setup the rest of the house for you. You write one big check (or the bank does) and move in. Simple. Who ever thought you could buy a house like you were shopping in a catalog? Oh ya, sears had been doing it for years. I guess this is a spin off of that.
